Prima tappa su suolo italiano nel Giro d'Italia 2016 e prima vittoria italiana, grazie a Diego Ulissi che tinge di blu-fucsia-verde la 4^frazione, 200 km da Catanzaro a Praia Mare. Il corridore della LAMPRE-MERIDA ha conquistato la gloria grazie a un finale da fuoriclasse che lo ha portato a raggiungere in solitaria l'arrivo posto sul lungomare di Praia a Mare: distanziati di 5” Dumoulin (ora di nuovo in rosa) e Kruijswijk, il gruppetto degli uomini di classifica.

Arrivando sulla testa della corsa, Ulissi ha trovato il compagno di squadra Conti e altri 11 corridori: proprio Conti è stato un alleato preziosissimo per il campione livornese, dato che ha impresso al gruppetto dei battistrada un ritmo efficace che ha tenuto a distanza gli inseguitori.

Con un progressione il corridore della LAMPRE-MERIDA si è sbarazzato degli altri fuggitivi poi, terminata la salita, ha ingranato un rapporto lungo che gli ha consentito di difendere una ventina di secondi di vantaggio sugli avversari fino all'arrivo.

ANSA/ALESSANDRO DI MEOENGLISH TEXTFirst stage in Italy and first success from an Italian cyclist in this Giro d'Italia, thanks to the victory of Diego Ulissi in the 4th stage, 200 km from Catanzaro to Praia a Mare. LAMPRE-MERIDA cyclist realized an impressive attack which allowed him to reach as solo the final straight in Praia a Mare, crossing the finish line with 5” on Dumoulin (back in pink) and Kruijswijk, 6” on the top contenders for the general classification. When the first and main breakaway of the stage was neutralized (Mohoric was a brilliant member of this action), Diego Ulissi built up his victory attacking from the bunch at 30 km to the arrival, bridging the gap from the head group of 12 riders in which the blue-fucshia-green Conti was pedaling. Conti was great in leading this group of attackers and he set the conditions for approaching the final hill, whose summit was at 8700 meters to the arrival, with a fairly good advantage of the peloton.
